Nothing better
Best pipe I've ever owned just got a case for it so I can take it everywhere I go.
I can FINALLY replace my stolen pipe after MANY years!
Many years ago somebody lifted my bag from my job and they made off with a few goodies including my old Gerber multi-tool, original iPod, and my Proto Pipe. I looked far and wide to replace my Proto Pipe to no avail so I gave up my search. Many many moons later I have found this site and was EXTATIC to be able to once again have a GREAT travel companion. It has all the bells and whistles with the whole kit and caboodle in a compact form. Stash holder CHECK, poker CHECK, bowl-cap CHECKEROONIE! Proto Pipe!!!!!!
Full circle
I had one way back when (early '80s) and stopped smoking for work sometime later that decade. Now that I've retired and wanted to smoke a bit once more I needed a pipe and asked the local head shop (still the same one as yesteryear) if they had anything like it. I was told they were hard to come by but they did have an original branded one from the same folks as before. Yay.
Great pipe
My Proto pipe classic arrived very quick, thanks as I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m impressed by the design and workmanship of this pipe. Love how it can be cleaned up good as new
fairly easily. I hope to get many years of good use out of it like many of the other reviewers here.
Get the real deal
Don’t waste your time and money on cheap knockoffs. The fakes leak rez ,bend and fall apart. Spend a little bit more on a real one and only purchase one for a life time
A great example of American engineering - compact and carefully designed
I enjoyed having, and using, mine. The component parts - handle, poker, body, bowl bottom - all tightly machined brass that fits tightly together. And the poker and handle have multiple functions. Quite impressive. Carrying it was convenient. But don't use it in public, where the local PD might see it. It looks like a firecracker being lit - maybe a roman candle - when observed by police watching for unruly celebrants at a 4th Of July celebration. Obviously, this was long before cannabis was decriminalised. The police officer quickly switched personality, from vigourously scolding me for lighting my own firecracker in a crowd (when he thought it was a roman candle), to just a friendly local resident (when he realised it was a weed accessory). The bowl contained just ashes - and the handle was empty - so he confiscated the empty "paraphernalia" and ran over to arrest a nearby idiot who was actually running around with a lit sparkler. And I had just smoked a bowl, so was not really thinking well (another pothead, duh). And he did not get to see the 1/8 oz baggie, in my left pocket. Which my friends told me later would have led to me, in handcuffs, on my way to county lockup. Good times.
There can be only one!
Ok so I bought my first one in 1989 in Chattanooga, TN. A friend turned me on to it and smoke has never tasted better. Fast forward, best I can remember anyway, 35 years and it still his the only one. A true smoker or canaseur has one and we are loyal for life. It's been a while since they were available OTC but that's cool it's been worth the wait! Killer thing about these bad boys they endure and get better with age. I've owned 3 in my 35 years of consumption....about to be number 4! Thank you Protopipe it's great to see you back again!
It’s perfect
Another reviewer said it right. It’s the Cadillac of metal pipes. I have had mine about 15 years as well and it still smokes perfectly, so long as it’s cleaned out from time to time. Best small investment I ever made.
Fake Proto Pipe
I bought this proto pipe after buying a knockoff. Thought this was a real Proto Pipe, NO!
Another very cheaply made chinese knockoff.
I have a knock off that i use and love it. Wish i had a real one. My favorite pipe!
Still waiting
I purchased my proto pipe 4 years ago from a shop in Daytona Beach while on vacation, it worked great for about a month and a half when the tab on the stash that helps lock the unit together came off. I sent it in to be repaired or replaced and NEVER RECEIVED IT BACK! That was a lot of money for someone on a fixed income and I can't justify buying another one given the experience I had with the last one.
