How Much Is An Oz Of Weed Where You Live?

The East vs. West rivalry is back.

There’s much debate between states and how much an ounce of weed can cost, which depends on various underlying factors. First, we must dissect the gram.

The price of an ounce of weed primarily depends on how much you can get from it, like how many joints can be rolled. But, according to Sun West Genetics, the amount of weed in one joint also varies. One study shows that the average weight of weed from a joint is roughly 0.32 grams, but other users say that they can fit one whole gram in a joint.

This mostly depends on the user’s preferences and tolerance, but the average medium-sized joint usually carries about 0.5 grams of weed. The cost of a gram also indicates how much an ounce can cost, which typically ranges from $10 to $15. That said, the price of a gram depends on the location (state) and the quality of the flower.

Many different markets have varying prices, like Oregon City and Seattle all have significantly low prices for grams of weed, which is roughly $6.75. Up from that, Colorado usually sells grams for $7.15, while up north in Canada, the average is $9/gram. But then, in Washington D.C., a gram of weed is sold at a peak price of $18.

Now that we know the rough estimates of how much a gram can cost, we can start examining the price of ounces. Typically, in the United States, ounces of weed will sell from $230 to $380. Some of the more expensive states to buy an ounce are Alaska, New Jersey, New Hampshire, which is usually about $300. Surprisingly, in Washington D.C., an ounce can go for a whopping $500.

In other states, theres’ much more affordable weed like Oregon, which sells ounces for around $186. Washington State has ounces for $190, and Colorado at $200. In Canada, ounces can be purchased at the low price of $190 CAD.

Seasoned cannabis veterans are well aware that an ounce of weed is 28 grams, which is also the most popular quantity consumers purchase from dispensaries to cut costs and save their money in the long run. If you’re smoking joints with 0.5 grams of weed, you can get up to as many as 56 joints from one ounce.

The last underlying factor of price for ounces depends on government taxes, which made the act of purchasing cannabis rather expensive. In the United States, cannabis companies are subject to taxes from 30% to 70%.

It’s no surprise that Washington D.C. has the highest tax rates, but they also have an additional 37% when each product is sold. States like Alaska don’t charge tax on the sale of cannabis, but they do have a cultivation tax of $50 per ounce.
