What exactly is a cannabis suppository, and do they actually work?
You might have heard the term suppositories when speaking with your doctor or healthcare provider. The newest product on the market in the cannabis industry is exactly that, a cannabis suppository.
Cannabis suppositories are small pills that aren’t swallowed but inserted into the vagina or rectum. They usually come in cone shapes to help ease the insertion process.
The suppository will melt and dissolve into the vaginal epithelium, bloodstream, or large intestine, depending on where they’re inserted. Your body then absorbs the contents that usually contain cannabis extract mixed with a base like cocoa butter or shea butter.

There are many benefits to using cannabis suppositories. For starters, they can offer a localized effect in the body without having to be broken down in the stomach first, as this all takes place in the rectal/abdominal region or the vaginal area.
When ingesting cannabis orally in an edible, your gut often loses some active cannabinoids during metabolization. For this reason, cannabis suppositories allow your body to absorb all active components in the pill.
Because suppositories are inserted through the rectum or vagina, this lets individuals who don’t want to smoke or can’t swallow pills experience the many benefits of cannabis.
Another example is those who suffer from severe nausea, and their digestive tract is a little more sensitive than others. This also goes for chemotherapy patients who may find that cannabis suppositories are a great option because they don’t get broken down in the stomach and liver.

Much research supports how rectal suppositories could be a better option for those undergoing chemotherapy and who suffer from severe nausea, as noted above. Because cannabis suppositories often produce slower effects, this may result in less of a psychoactive experience and fewer side effects overall.
There’s also a dramatically increasing use of rectal cannabis suppositories to help treat gastrointestinal conditions or hemorrhoids that were designed to relieve the user from any pain or discomfort in those areas.
On the other hand, vaginal cannabis suppositories are quickly increasing in demand thanks to their benefits in treating endometriosis, menstrual cramps, and pelvic discomfort.
Additionally, intimacy suppositories are growing in popularity. These contain CBD and/or THC that’s inserted into the vagina or rectum before sexual intercourse. These types of suppositories are said to heighten the sensations and ease pain, discomfort, and relieve tension, dryness, and inflammation.
