It’s a little-known secret that many famous athletes in the NBA enjoy cannabis from time to time. And a couple decades ago, players would even smoke before their games to improve focus and reduce game-day anxiety. There were probably so many players that smoked cannabis under the radar that this list could’ve ended up being hundreds of players long. So here are fifteen of some well-known NBA stars that have had stories leak about their love for cannabis.
Back in August 2011, Randolf was caught up in a story about his experience whilst trying to buy cannabis from a shady dealer. Apparently, the dealer thought he could scam the NBA player, charging $200 for a bag of cannabis. Zac was having none of that, so he stole the baggie from the dealer and slammed his door shut.
After driving home from a game in Seattle, Wallace was pulled over by the police for speeding. The po-po ended up finding forty grams of Pacific Northwest cannabis, resulting in Wallace agreeing to a plea deal.
Paparazzi snapped a photo of Smith holding a blunt back in 2012 while he was vacationing with Rihanna in South Beach.
Carmelo was caught boarding a plane in 2004 with cannabis in his carry-on. He insisted that it wasn’t his, referring to a friend who borrowed his bag before the flight. Oldest excuse in the book!

The Los Angeles Times reported in 2001 that “Drug rumors and some doubts about his character bumped him from the top spot.” There are some Clippers fans who believed Odom smoked before every game. He failed an official NBA drug test in March that year and claimed to have learned his lesson. He then proceeded to fail another test in November 2001.
In the King’s book Shooting Stars he admitted that he and his teammates smoked cannabis one night in a hotel room in Akron. But we doubt that was his only time using cannabis, he was caught with a MicroG pen vaporizer after game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals.
In March 2010, Noah was spotted in Chicago on a block that is known by the locals known as the “Head Shop Row” where he was out shopping for bongs with some friends.
When asked about whether he uses cannabis, Nash replied with a comical “I’m from Vancouver.” If this isn’t the best response to a question like this, then I don’t know what is.
Klay Thompson was arrested for possession back when he played college basketball, and when asked about if he uses it recreationally he replied,
But not recreational, that should not be of its use ever. There’s a medicinal side to it that people are finding out have benefits, especially people with really high pain.
Back in his prime during the year 1997, Iverson was arrested for the possession of a gun and two cannabis joints He pleaded no contest for the gun and the drug charges were dropped. Did he smoke regularly? We will likely never know, but that crossover had to have come from somewhere!
