If you love Ferris wheels but are tired of the regular rickety rides, you might want to book your next vacation in Dubai because the city just built the largest Ferris wheel in the world.
The grandiose and tallest Ferris wheel just opened to the public on Thursday and invited guests for a scenic and relaxed ride they’ll never forget. The wheel is located on Bluewaters Island and offers brilliant and never-before-seen views of the Dubai skyline.
According to their website, the Ferris wheel is called the Ain Dubai and stands at roughly 820 feet tall, which required a whopping 11,200 tons of steel to build. Well, just how big are the other famous Ferris wheels, you might ask?
The renowned London Eye, one of the largest observations wheels globally and one of the most famous ones, stands only at 440 feet tall, just over half of the Ain’s height. Not to mention the High Roller in Las Vegas being stripped of its record as the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, standing at 550 feet tall.
During its debut and opening nights on Thursday and Friday, a press release from PRNewswire stated that the wheel was lit up at night, and visitors witnessed a beaming firework show to kick things off. It’s said the celebration last week was in the making for quite some time.
The Telegraph reported that authorities in Dubai first gave construction teams the OK to build the massive Ferris wheel nine years ago in 2013 to heighten tourist activity in the area. After many delays, the wheel was supposed to open last year where organizers had to delay it once again due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
