Aboard Horizon Air Flight 2059, traveling from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco, Emerson, while off-duty, entered the cockpit and seated himself in the jump seat. In a startling deviation from protocol, Emerson had consumed magic mushrooms before the flight, setting off a chain of events that could have ended in catastrophe. 

Under the influence, Emerson’s perception of reality warped, leading him to believe he was trapped in a dream. Desperate to ‘wake up,’ he made a shocking move to seize control of the plane, attempting to cut the fuel supply by pulling the fire-suppression handles, a decision that threatened every soul on board. 

Quick thinking and swift action by the flight crew averted the potential disaster. The pilots subdued Emerson and safely diverted the aircraft to Portland, Oregon. Initially oblivious to the severity of the situation, the passengers and crew were brought to safety, but some were left with emotional scars. 

Post-incident, Emerson faced a storm of legal repercussions, with 83 counts of attempted murder leveled against him, symbolizing the lives he endangered. His defense hinged on the claim that the consumption of psychedelic mushrooms led him to this extreme and distorted reality. 

Released on bail by Judge Thomas Ryan of the Multnomah County Circuit Court on December 8, 2023, Emerson pled not guilty to revised charges of reckless endangerment. Yes.”
