Why smoke a joint through a bong? Besides filtration, it looks pretty damn cool.
So you want to level up your smoking game. Well, you’ve come to the right place. Whether you prefer thick joints or a cool bong rip, we’ve got a new hack for you.
It’s pretty common to think that smoking a joint through a bong is unnecessary. After all, these are two completely different cannabis consumption methods. So why put them together?
I’m glad you asked. Using a joint in a bong brings out the best of both consumption methods. Check out our rundown on which method is healthier, a joint or a bong.
If you’re familiar with both of these methods, chances are you’re aware that bongs provide more filtration while cooling the smoke with water. They also present an elongated air path from the weed to your mouth, which smoothens and cools the smoke for less throat irritation and uncomfortable coughing.
Don’t get me wrong; bongs can still have you hunched over in a coughing fit, but compared to the impurities, resin, tar, and hot smoke inhaled with joints, bongs can be easier and allow for more comfortable sessions, especially for beginners.
On the other hand, joints deliver a different high. The laidback session with slow-burning smoke is one of the most relaxing things humans can experience. Plus, if you prefer rolling joints without the filter but want to get every last bit of weed, you can smoke it through a bong without burning your fingers. It also looks pretty cool.
Sort of makes you think, why not just put these two methods in one? See below for how to smoke a joint through a bong.
Step 1: For starters, it’s essential to have a clean bong, downstem, and bowl piece. If the air hole in your bowl piece is smaller due to excess gunk and resin, it won’t work or be as effective. Once your bong is clean, fill it with water like you normally would and set it aside.
Step 2: Whether you have papers or pre-rolls, the next step is to roll a joint. If you’ve snagged your favorite pre-roll pack from the dispensary, go ahead and skip this step. Also, it doesn’t matter if the joint has a filter or not. All that matters is that you have a joint.
Step 3: Instead of packing your bowl piece with ground herb, take your joint and stick the mouth end into the hole of your bowl piece. If your filter is too large and doesn’t fit, remove it and squish the bottom of the joint to fit tightly in the hole. For an even tighter pack, stick your joint in your bowl piece and surround it with ground weed like a regular bowl. This will help keep the joint in place.
Step 4: Before you spark, know that your joint will still produce a ton of smoke from the end that’s lit. It’s a regular joint, after all, so maybe head outdoors if you’re not willing to fill your space with smoke.
Step 5: Spark up! Light the tip of your joint and inhale from the bong to help it light evenly. Once it’s lit, prepare for cool, filtered, and flavorful back-to-back hits of your favorite strain.
