The Most Expensive Weed Strain 2024

Now when it comes to the most expensive strain of weed on the market right now, it’s got to be Loud Dream.

This strain is known for commanding prices as high as $800 to $1,000 per ounce (that’s around $28-$35 per gram). Its potent THC levels, reaching up to 40%, are a big reason behind the steep cost.

Back in 2010, the title for the most expensive weed strain—and even the priciest seeds—belonged to Oracle.

Seeds for Oracle were selling for as much as $200 each, with claims that the strain had a short flowering period and THC levels as high as 45%. While those flowering claims were later debunked, Oracle was still in high demand for its powerful effects.

What Influences the Cost?

Often times, you’re paying for the experience. Stronger strains that are notorious for getting users extremely high will often cost more than ones known to be duds.

Several factors go into determining how much you’ll pay for your stash.

THC and CBD Content: High-THC strains typically cost more, since THC is what gets you high. CBD-dominant strains or those with lower THC tend to be a bit more affordable.

Growing Methods: How the weed is grown makes a big difference. Indoor or hydroponic setups are pricier due to the controlled environment and equipment, while sun-grown (outdoor) weed is generally cheaper. Advanced methods like aeroponics or greenhouse grows tend to fall somewhere in between.

Brand Name & Genetics: Popular brands or strains with rare genetics are usually more expensive. If it’s a rare or sought-after strain, expect the price to reflect that.

Location: Where you live can really affect the price. In areas where weed is harder to come by or still illegal (like Tokyo), prices can skyrocket. In legal markets, prices are usually more stable but still vary depending on the region.

Regulations & Taxes: Buying from a dispensary? You’re likely paying taxes on top of the product price. Depending on where you are, taxes can seriously add to the final cost, which is something you won’t have to deal with if buying from a local dealer.

How Much Is Too Much for a Weed Strain?

In most places, a gram of quality weed ranges from $10 to $20. An ounce typically falls between $150 and $300, depending on where you are and what strain you’re buying.

The higher-end strains can run as high as $400+ per ounce, or $30+ per gram, especially for those small-batch grows.

Anything above $30 per gram, and you might be getting ripped off.

At the end of the day, “too much” is subjective—if you’re willing to pay extra for a strain that hits all the right notes for you, then go for it.

But in general, you should be cautious of strains priced way above market average unless there’s a clear reason (like rare genetics or an impeccable growing process).
