It's about time educational cannabis videos get the recognition (and cash) they deserve.
We’ve known YouTube to be a monster company that holds just about any content you’re looking for. However, the video platform has managed to enforce tight restrictions on the monetization of cannabis and other drug-related content.
Monetization simply means that videos will generate income if it doesn’t break YouTube’s violations and restrictions. The rules haven’t budged for a long time, but the demonetization of educational videos from any subject has left many YouTubers feeling like they got the short end of the stick.

Thanks to those who’ve spoken out and made their dissatisfaction known to the public, YouTube has recently updated its marijuana and YouTube content policies. This could be due to the drug’s advancement in the states, many Latin American countries, and our neighbor Canada, all of which have led the way for nationwide legalization.
According to Gizmodo, the new policies allow channels to monetize material that “focuses on the purchase, manufacture or distribution of drugs.” Thanks to the changes, we expect to see much more cannabis advertisements on YouTube.
That said, the rules do not state that just anything can be monetized; instead, they only apply to objective, informative, educational, and “non-glorified” content. So those daily kush vlogs still won’t see any cash flow coming their way.
