RESULTS: A new “ world record” was recently set as the parents of a 2 month old baby girl decided to administer Charlotte’s Web CBD hemp oil to treat her epilepsy.
A New Mexico family recently arrived in Colorado to find a treatment for their 2-month-old daughter, Amylea who suffers from a rare form of epilepsy. During Amylea’s short 2 months of life, doctor’s prescribed countless medications and treatments for her seizures—nothing worked. Her parents knew there was a solution. The answer was hidden in plain sight—three simple letters—CBD.
The family was convinced Charlotte’s Web hemp oil, that is rich in CBD, was the answer to their daughter’s condition. In New Mexico the Nunez’ were not able to find a doctor that would allow the use of CBD under their care. Though they were able to purchase Charlotte’s Web in their state (in fact it is legal in all 50 states), the family would potentially be at risk to lose Amylea to child protection services that do not condone the use of any cannabis based product.
Persistence paid off for the family in Colorado—doctors at the Children’s Hospital agreed to allow the treatment, with the understanding that the parents had to administer the extracts.
“If a family makes the tough decision to explore the use of medical marijuana Children’s Colorado will continue to provide care to these children.”—Children’s Colorado
After 2 weeks of using Charlotte’s Web, Amylea’s seizures have largely subsided. They are less frequent and less severe.
“She is a lot more alert today, she is looking around today and following our faces when we talk to her,” Amylea’s mother said, “whereas before when we talked to her she did not react at all.”
Fortunately, the Nunez family was able to quickly realize that their daughter may be one of the many children that hemp oil can rescue. Often times, children spend months and years on highly addictive painkillers and other pharmaceuticals that do not effectively treat or cure their conditions. The prolonged use of these pharmaceuticals at a young age can inhibit proper brain and body development.
Amylea is responding well to Charlotte’s Web. Fortunately, the doctors at Children’s Colorado are willing to observe and on some levels participate in the hemp oil treatments. As the youngest person to receive these treatments, Amylea is a record holder—but also much more. Her story signifies the progress that we are making as advocates for the free and safe access to cannabinoids.
It is important to note that Charlotte’s Web hemp oil is not medical marijuana. It won’t get you high. Though Children’s Colorado refers to the CBD hemp oil as “medical marijuana”, they are incorrectly labeling Amylea’s treatment.
I include this information because I suspect that some families are reluctant to investigate CBD simply because they believe it is marijuana. It does not have to be.
If you are missing out on the potential health benefits of CBD because you think it is marijuana and subsequently illegal in your state—please think again. If it works for 2-month-old Amylea, what could it do for you?
