Former Detroit Red Wing Darren McCarty Is An Early Buyer In NFTrogs, A Cannabis Culture Collection

NHL star and former Detroit Red Wing Darren McCarty is beginning his ventures in the realm of NFTs, and the collection he’s dabbling in is quickly making waves in the cannabis community. 

According to High Times, the former Red Wing bought an NFT from an Australian artist TROG, who dubbs himself as “your favorite cannabis culture artist.” As TROG began dropping his characters under NFTrogs, he was thrilled to hear about McCarty being an early buyer. 

On January 10, NFTrogs made its official debut and launched on the Ethereum ERC-20 platform. He hopes to expand the collection into other chains like Binance Chain and more. Ethereum and its token Ether is currently the second most valuable cryptocurrency, just behind Bitcoin. 

Now, the NFTrogs team is currently minting and offering NFTrogs to OpenSea. For newcomers to the world of NFTs, signing up for an OpenSea account is your first step, and you’ll also need to create a wallet to store the NFTs you purchase.

Expanding on the design aspect of NFTrogs, the characters are reminiscent of TROG’s significant work in drawing posters for cannabis events. Many NFTrogs characters resemble those trippy drawings in his Killer Weed Coloring Book, and those of Deadlines, a collectible book featuring his expansive portfolio of cannabis event posters.

The first round of NFTrogs became available to the public on January 10, and it’s the first of four drops that make up the first 100 NFTrogs characters. Each character is an individual NFT of TROG, but he is currently adding digital contracts, so every NFT has its own unique bonus.

On McCarty’s end, he’s been exploring the cannabis industry by launching flower and hemp products under The Darren McCarty Brand, a collaboration with Pincanna that began roughly two years ago. McCarty also revealed the brand’s collection of THC gummies and CBD + CBN gummies.

McCarty digitally purchased NFT TROG #25, one of the earliest characters available from that collection. In a video message to High Times, McCarty said with “NFTs and all this stuff, I’m just starting to learn about it.” He said the eyeballs on the NFTrog characters were enough to be all in, and “[we] should be too.”

It’s okay if you don’t completely understand the world of NFTs, as it’s still relatively new to society. NFTs are non-fungible tokens that must be purchased through a particular cryptocurrency like Ethereum, Bitcoin, etc. 

You must also set up a wallet with that particular cryptocurrency in order to hold and store your NFTs. The idea is to buy in on collections and flip them for profit in the coming years.
