Many might call cannabis users “dopes,” but according to new research, women who consume cannabis actually have higher IQs than those who don’t.
Cannabis users have always been associated with lesser intelligence. Many incorrectly believe consuming cannabis has a negative impact on the brain and its functions, resulting in reduced processing and skill levels. Over prolonged periods of exposure, the damage becomes less and less reversible. Except, this stereotype couldn’t be further from the truth, especially for women. New research is proving that cannabis users actually have higher IQ scores than those who don’t toke.
Many might call cannabis users “dopes,” but according to new research, women who consume cannabis actually have higher IQs than those who don’t. The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health looked at 800 female cannabis users, compiling data on things like their intelligence, schooling level, smoking habits and lifestyle. After concluding their research, the group released some shocking statistics.
Not only did most of the female cannabis smokers have higher IQs than the general public, women who were 50% smarter than the average woman were more likely to consume cannabis. This means, the smarter the woman, the greater her chances of using cannabis.
While the data proved women who ingest cannabis are of higher intelligence, it didn’t explain why. Researchers were puzzled by the lack of findings, questioning why the higher IQs were found in those who regularly used cannabis. The higher IQ phenomenon is still unexplained, but scientists have released some insight into why they think cannabis users are generally more intelligent.
There is no concrete proof as to why women who consume cannabis seem to have higher IQs, but researchers believe it might have something to do with being more open to new experiences.
Often, those with higher IQs seek out new and exciting stimulation. Experimenting with cannabis, and experiencing the many benefits first-hand, might be the cause of the higher IQ phenomenon. Once the women try cannabis, they’re more likely to consume again because they begin to understand the mind-opening affects it delivers.
Those with higher IQs become bored with the status quo and become inspired or driven in unique ways. Consuming cannabis might provide a different way of thinking for those of higher intelligence, influencing and enhancing their work or creativity. This also helps to make cannabis an attractive stimuli. Not only is it delivering the desired effects, but it’s also healthy and naturally, a fact that any intelligent person is hyper-aware of.
Scientists might not ever get a definitive answer as to why women who use cannabis have higher IQs, but that won’t stop them from researching and sifting through information. As cannabis legalization and decriminalization reaches federal levels, more leeway for research will be made, like we’re already seeing with CBD research.
An abundance of ready and willing participants are waiting to take part in studies that help to further validate the benefits of cannabis. Scientists will have immediate access to an endless supply of data. Whether it’s an increased IQ or reduced risk of cancer, cannabis is proving its worth more and more every day.
