From a classic stoner comedy to a documentary that takes place at the center of the cannabis reform, Netflix has some great weed related entertainment.
With something for almost everyone, it’s almost a given that Netflix would have a bunch of weed-related movies, documentaries and shows. But due to the amount of content that can be streamed, it’s not always easy to find the said titles, which is why you should use this handy list for the next time you’re on the couch (and, hopefully, elevated).
We’ve got the perfect companion for your cannabic Netflix binge-watching. Check out this high-quality craft made hybrid that will get you in the mood. The best thing about it? You can order online and have it delivered at your door!
As a green version of Super Size Me, this documentary by Doug Benson shows what happens to him after he consumes cannabis for 30 days, with results that might actually surprise you. Sure, the world has changed a lot in the decade since it was released, but Super High Me is a classic that will hold your attention (and, of course, have you laughing).
Sure, the synopsis sounds quite predictable but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work, as Dough is a funny and heartwarming comedy. Taking cues from Saving Grace, this British comedy tells the story of an old Jewish baker that is struggling to keep his business afloat, until he employs a young Muslim apprentice that drops cannabis in the dough, sending sales sky high.
With the legalization of weed in Colorado, the “green rush” began and The Denver Post was the major media outlet at the center of it all. The documentary chronicles how The Denver Post became the first newspaper to have first cannabis-centric section, with a dedicated editor and team of staff and freelance writers.
While it’s not universally loved, there is something about Half Baked, which continues to entertain – mostly to people who smoke, mind you. Written by Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan, the co-creators of Chappelle’s Show, it’s safe to say that Half Baked is definitely your above-average stoner comedy.
Live from San Francisco, veteran comedian Joe Rogan comes right out and lets the audience know he’s “high as fuck” and that’s a good thing for them. The first five minutes of Rogan’s special are a must-see for anyone who has ingested an edible before and from there you’ll be hooked – guaranteed.
Disjointed is a Netflix sitcom, created by the sultan of sitcoms that is Chuck Lorre, which stars Kathy Bates (Misery) as the owner of a dispensary that is the center of the show. The show is based around an absurdity-filled “professional” environment of the alternative care team in the dispensary. Filled with humor that brings passion for life, love, and cannabis to light. With a smart script that seamlessly blends cannabis facts and culture with the mainstream.
I don’t know if the words “instant classic” can be used with this one, but having two of the most prominent cannabis advocacy figures of our time (Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa) in a single film just seems like it should be enough to do so. A film that should definitely be watched high, if not, you really do run the risk of wasting your time. But if you listen to the instructions at the beginning of the film then you’re in for an hour and 15 minute whirlwind of cannabis quotes, thoughts, feelings, and overall, just a good laugh.
If you’re into cooking shows and into cannabis, then boooy is this one for you. A competition based reality show where chefs compete to get advance in the competition and surprise hosts and special guests alike with cannabis based dishes. A show that not only entertains but serves as a kind of Trojan Horse to change long-standing weed taboos by showing that art, food, and cannabis can share a platform.
Another goofy film that’s sure to make you laugh. If you’re not into raunchy, raw comedy, then this isn’t the film for you. But if you can enjoy comedy and not get offended easily, then Gam Over, Man! is a must watch. Three lazy friends that work together at a luxurious 5-star hotel, interpreted by the hilarious comedy acting crew from Workaholics; Adam Devine, Anders Holm, and Blake Anderson, get thrust into a mad adventure where they will have to take back the hotel from a terrorist group that takes the building hostage. Although not strictly about weed, these three make this film a must-watch for high audiences.
Yet another film you could easily skip without even noticing the gem you’re missing. The package tells a hilarious story of 5 high schoolers who get wound up in an insane adventure to return their friends severed penis to him in time for it to be reattached. A disgraceful accident product of a drunken-stoned night that ends in a modern-day high school movie that’s sure to trigger a few laughs.
If you don’t know about Rick & Morty then it’s likely that you’ve been living under a rock for the past 7 years. But if you are familiar then you’ll understand why the acclaimed cartoon series is on this list. Although not directly related with weed, the freaky adventures that Rick embarks on with his grandson Morty take us through a myriad of unimaginable worlds that sometimes can only make sense if we’re smoking weed. So this title is not on the list because it talks about weed, but because watching it while stoned is a mind-expanding experience.
