See what the country singer had to say about his sesh with Willie Nelson.
If there’s anyone we’d give an arm and a leg to smoke with, it’s Willie Nelson.
The legendary recording artist has managed to become the cannabis industry’s icon and enthusiast for federal legalization in the United States.
However, even the most seasoned user has to buckle up when sharing some green with Nelson. Country artist Luke Combs knows that all too well.
During his recent appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Combs explained that he was in a songwriting festival in Hawaii and was later invited to Willie Nelson’s house in Maui.
Combs explained that stepping into Nelson’s house was pretty intimidating. Not to mention the pressure he felt going into one of Nelson’s iconic poker games.
“So we get in there, we’re talkin’ for a minute, dude, he rips the piece out, dude, you know what I mean? The peace pipe,” says Combs.
“And I’ve heard the stories, bro, it’s like, don’t, you know. Toby Keith has a song called ‘I’ll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again,’ you know what I mean?”
Combs knew that hitting the renowned peace pipe was a one-and-done deal. “I’ve heard the song; I’m aware of the moment, you know. And I go, ‘All right, man, when this thing comes, you only got one, dude, you can’t go twice, dude, on this deal.’”
Well, he eventually took more than one hit and realized he needed to step back during one of Nelson’s intense poker games. Later, Nelson decided he needed to get his legs moving.
As Willie strolled past the table all the way to a punching bag at the end of the hallway, Combs needed a minute to recollect his thoughts.
“And he stands there, arms out, like full karate kid and starts just kicking this punching bag. Tossing crane kicks, dude; he’s 84, and like, just hammering this punching bag.
He concluded, “I’m looking at the poker table, and I’m like, what is happening?”
