10 Household Items For Smoking Cannabis

How to smoke weed with household items and various things to smoke out of.

Smoking weed can require creativity and innovation, especially when you’ve run out of rolling papers or misplaced your bowl.

Taking a quick look around the room, you may naturally think, “What can I smoke out of?”

Luckily, you needn’t venture far to improvise a good smoke session using simple household items in your home.

Here are ten household items for smoking when you’re in a pinch.

Apples

When looking for what to smoke weed out of, turn to the apple.

All you need is this ubiquitous household fruit, a pen or pencil, foil, scissors, and your bud.

By poking a carb hole at the side and emptying the apple’s central core, you’ve fashioned a nifty natural pipe for terpene-rich hits. Scoop your weed right into the top, light up, and enjoy the sweet apple essence infusing the taste!

Aluminum Cans

That empty soda or beer can also offers potential with the right DIY approach. Clean thoroughly and use scissors or a knife to carefully carve a smoking bowl depression about 1/3 down the side of the can.

Puncture the slightly indented bottom with a pen, safety pin, or thumbtack to create a carb hole. Shape a little foil over your new bowl, stuff the top with ground bud, and then insert a straw or pipe as a handy mouthpiece while firing up your newly constructed creation.

Warning: Chemicals from the can may leach into the smoke upon heating, which you could inhale, posing health risks.

Mason Jar

Out of all the things you can smoke out of, a mason jar might be the best bong-mock method.

You’ve got an instant water-filtered smoking device with some basic hardware pickups from your local smoke shop and the likely mason jars lurking in every household kitchen.

Pop a slide bowl piece into the jar lid and insert the corresponding downstream mouthpiece into the bottom of a quart jar with just enough water to cover the lower portion when upright. Top with a weed mix, and let the bubbler percolations commence!

Metal Socket + Bottle

When looking for what to smoke out of at home, you might not ever think of using something from your toolkit.

Yet, another handy item in your average toolkit includes sockets.

What You’ll Need:

  • A socket from a socket wrench set (typically made of metal)
  • A bottle or a small tube
  • Aluminum foil (optional)
  • A screen (optional, for keeping the material from pulling through)
  • Your smoking material

Steps:

  1. Select the Right Socket: Choose a socket that fits well into the opening of the bottle or tube you are using. The socket should be small enough to serve as a bowl but large enough to hold the smoking material.
  2. Prepare the Socket: If you have a screen, place it at the bottom of the socket to prevent your smoking material from falling through. If you don’t have a screen, you can use a small piece of aluminum foil with tiny holes poked through for airflow.
  3. Attach the Socket to a Bottle or Tube: Fit the narrower end of the socket into the opening of a bottle or a small tube. This will act as the pipe’s bowl. Make sure it’s snug to prevent any smoke from escaping.
  4. Fill the Socket: Lightly pack the socket with your smoking material, not too tightly, so that air can still flow through.
  5. Smoke: Light up and let the bottle fill with milky-white smoke until the chamber is opaque before inhaling through the mouth hole for a monster rip.

Fruit

Fruit remains one of the most organic things to smoke out of at home.

Carefully carve out an apple, pear, pineapple, or watermelon bowl using kitchen tools.

Citrus fruits with already hollow centers, like orange and grapefruit halves, only require small modifications to transform into handy weed carriers as well. Scoop out the juicy contents, poke a hole on the side, stuff with frosty nuggets, and taste the tangy citric terpenes intermingle with every hit.

Potato

A potato was the last thing we thought of when reflecting on what to smoke weed out of. But, it works!

Embrace your inner MacGyver stoner by turning an ordinary spud into an improvised piece. Use a pen or skewer to pierce a long horizontal chamber through the potato’s center.

Then, re-seal by packing both ends tightly with foil. Poke a small carb hole on the side, top with ground herb, and insert a makeshift mouthpiece. When smoking through a potato, flavorful vapor combines with the starch’s natural essence for added taste. Baked with your baked – genius!

Corn Cob Pipe

Put Grandpa’s retro accessory to new use because corn cob pipes prove incredibly effective vessels for cannabis. Naturally porous and lightweight, corn cobs feature a slender stem and bowl shape perfect for smoking.

Pack some sticky icky in the hollowed-out top and savor the corny flavor infusing the rich smoke. Stalks from sweet corn, peppers, carrots, and other household veggies can also work in a pinch!

Magnifying Glass

When all else fails, turn to the sun goddess herself for an assist. By focusing natural light beams through a standard magnifying glass, you can ignite a finely ground pile of weed substituted for traditional paper.

Concentrating the rays just right over your herb mound may take some practice. But once mastered, this survival tactic leaves you off-the-grid ready for a solar-powered session anywhere.

This technique is for the truly, truly desperate. Bringing it back to the caveman days with this one.

Your Bare Hands

And for the truly bankrupt DIY diehards – present your best Duck Bill impression for a handy, hands-free smoking hack. Pinch your pointer finger and thumb together into the bill shape, and then hollow out your remaining fingers into a funnel/chamber.

Pack tightly with ground bud, wrap lips around the hand-pipe opening, and spark up to breathe in the Wonka-flavanoid fumes. Just beware of stinky resin fingers for hours post-smoke.

With a little stoner creativity and daring, countless household items offer potential weed-smoking solutions in a pinch. Next time your stash situation seems dire, scan your immediate environment with inventive eyes and get resourcefully elevated!
